Black and Autistic
This is Chayce. He’s black. He’s autistic.
He is my son.
He’s kind, funny, wants to be like Chris Brown when he’s older and has empathy for others in way I’ve never seen.
A very loving little boy.
He also struggles with identifying social cues, has problems with communication, gets overwhelmed in certain situations leading to stimming or a total shut down, restricted interests and obsessions, has issues with sleeping, struggles with his fine motor skills, executive function issues, problems with regulating his emotions and mood instability. He’s #actuallyautistic
As well as raising awareness & fighting for acceptance, I’m also trying to prepare him for a future where he won’t just come up again Racism, but Ableism too.
#didyouknow Black males are almost 3x more likely to be killed by police than white men.
Autistic adults are 5x more likely to be jailed than those who are neurotypical!
Silent scrollers, all lives matter brigade & #Karens will roll their eyes. Not another BLM post.
Sorry if it makes you uncomfortable. Maybe it’s boring to you? But this is a very real issue!
Although as a mixed woman in the uk compared to a black male living in the US. My experiences aren’t as extreme.
If you are white, reading this, and still don’t get the term white privilege - #haveyouever -
• #google if a country is racist before booking a flight?
• Considered moving to another area but hesitated about if it’s multicultural or racist BEFORE researching the house prices?
• Ever had to tone down your whiteness?
• Ever been told your natural hair is unprofessional?
• Ever been pre judged, and later told “you’re actually a really nice”
• Ever had things thrown at you in the street whilst receiving racist abuse?
• Ever been refused entry because your group are too white?
A short list of my own experiences.. there are so many more!
The precautions I take as second nature are probably what bother me the most.
I should be able to move to the countryside. Or travel anywhere in the world without any hesitation! I can’t!

This cute innocent little boy that you see here [ #swipe ] will one day be seen as a threat. Feared simply because of the #melanin in his skin.
At what point does the view of him change?
This isn’t a fight against white people. Most of my family are white and I love them endlessly.
This isn’t a fight against the police. I worked for the metropolitan police for many years and met some of the most amazing police officers I am still in contact with til this day.
This is a fight against Racism!! And I’ll never stop... All we want is equality #BLM
